Yeast apple pie, just like grandma used to make

I love yeast dough, and this vegan apple pie is my absolute favorite. This is an absolute classic in my family and my grandma used to make this sheet cake very often. With its simple preparation and delicious combination of soft dough, sweet apples and cinnamon, it is perfect for any occasion.

  • 1 Ovenproof baking dish or baking tray

Ingredients

These Ingredients make:

Ingredients

  • 125 ml Oat drink lukewarm
  • 1/2 Packet Yeast
  • 50 g Margarine
  • 1 Pinch Salt
  • 2 Tbsp Syrup
  • 250 g Wheat flour Type 450 or type 630 spelt flour

Toppings

  • 3 Apples
  • Coconut oil to coat
  • Cinnamon

Instructions
 

Prepare the dough

  1. Dissolve the yeast in the lukewarm oat drink and leave to rest briefly.
  2. Add the margarine, salt and syrup and mix well.
  3. Gradually stir in the flour and knead the dough thoroughly until it is smooth.

Leave to rise and roll out

  1. Cover the dough and leave to rise in a warm place for at least 1 hour until it has doubled in volume.
  2. Roll out the risen dough on a floured surface and place on a baking tray lined with baking paper.

Top with apples, spread and season

  1. Wash and peel the apples and cut into thin slices.
  2. Cover the pastry with the apple slices and fold over the edges.
  3. Brush the top of the cake with coconut oil and sprinkle generously with cinnamon.

Baking and serving

  1. Bake the vegan apple pie in a preheated oven at 200 degrees Celsius top/bottom heat for about 30 minutes until golden brown.
  2. After baking, remove from the oven, leave to cool, cut into pieces and enjoy as you like!
